Sarah Curran provides technical, strategic and communications insight to Professor Peter Piot – the former LSHTM Director and the current EU Chief Scientific Advisor on Epidemics. With funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation she is also responsible for the strategic planning of the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Independent Advisory Committee, which provides high-level oversight to the evolving disease burden estimation initiative.
Sarah has led research for the UK’s All Party Parliamentary Group on Global Health, mapping out and analysing the UK’s global footprint in health and making the case for the continued investment and prioritisation of health and the related life sciences. Prior to joining LSHTM, she worked at Columbia University’s Earth Institute, managing nutrition policy projects in Timor-Leste, Haiti and Myanmar and with the UN’s Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Secretariat. She spent four years in the Press and Media Team at the European Union’s Delegation to the United Nations in New York and has held communications and policy roles with the EU’s Delegation to the US in Washington DC and in the UK Parliament.
Sarah holds and MPA from Columbia University and an MSc from London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
