I am a health economist with expertise in policy evaluation and applied microeconometrics. I joined LSHTM as Assistant Professor in Health Economics in November 2020. I co-lead the Policy Evaluation theme within the Global Health ECOnomics (GHECO) centre at LSHTM. I am also an Honorary Research Fellow at Imperial College London and a Visiting Senior Fellow at LSE Health.
I hold a BA in Economics from the Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM), an MSc in Health Economics and Policy from the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics and a PhD in Health Economics from LSHTM.
Prior to re-joining the School, I was a Research Fellow in Health Economics at Imperial College London and a Research Associate in Health Economics at the University of Manchester. I also have professional experience in both the public and private sectors in Mexico, including at the Ministry of Finance of the Mexico City Government, the Ministry of Social Development and a consultancy firm specialising in public finance.

Teaching
I am currently a seminar leader on the MSc modules Health Services and Economic Analysis for Health Policy at LSHTM. At Imperial College, I was co-lead of the MSc module on Financing Health Care and co-designed the Policy Evaluation theme of the online Health Economics module of the Global Master of Public Health. I also have lectured on Health Financing at the London School of Economics.
Research
My main research interests are policy evaluation, causal inference, health microeconometrics, performance measurement, health care financing and quality of health care. I am co-Principal Investigator of the SORT project, an NIHR funded study that will provide evidence on inequalities, comparative effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of treatments for three major types of cancer. I am also working on the PERMIT project (identification of person-level treatment effects in diabetes care) and on the evaluation of the implementation of the Transforming Children and Young People鈥檚 Mental Health Provision Green Paper.
