Epidemiologist with a focus on maternal and newborn health in low- and middle-income countries, as well as global health initiatives.
My research portfolio includes:
- Understanding Newborn Health Disparities: Analysing multi-country population-based data to understand disparities in neonatal mortality and stillbirths among low birthweight, preterm, and small-for-gestational-age births.
- Quantifying the Global Burden: Collaborating with WHO and UNICEF to estimate the global, regional, and national risks and burdens associated with low birthweight and preterm birth.
- Evaluating Complex Interventions: Evaluating the impact of facility- and community-based interventions on care-seeking behaviors for common childhood illnesses in Ethiopia.
- Learning from Implementation: Conducting process evaluations to identify successes, challenges, and lessons learned, providing insights to inform the design of future interventions.
- Strengthening Data Systems: Assessing the quality of birth data in routine health systems to support data-driven decision-making for policies and programs.
- Building Research Capacity: Leading capacity-building initiatives for Ethiopian researchers to strengthen local expertise in maternal and newborn health research.
