Rhymes and reasons: how eight people learnt about sex (1981)
How did people learn about sex before the internet? Our film series continues with a film produced by the Family Planning Association (FPA) which interviewed eight people of different ages and backgrounds about how they gained their sexual knowledge. Dr Ben Mechen (University College London) will discuss the film, drawing on the book he is currently writing, Responsible Pleasures: Sex in Britain after the Revolution, which examines how understandings of sexual liberalism, ‘good’ sex and the ‘healthy’ sexual subject changed during the 1970s and 1980s.
